Exploring Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains
Mark and Hajaa, a couple who love food and travel, decided to visit Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains for their latest adventure. Zakopane is a small town located in the southern part of Poland, nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Tatra Mountains. Known for its stunning natural beauty and winter sports activities, Zakopane attracts over 2.5 million tourists every year.
Before they began their exploration, Mark and Hajaa stopped by Baza Tatri, an event organizer and tourist information center, to get some recommendations on what to see and do in Zakopane. They were advised to check out Krupofki Street, a popular tourist attraction known for its shops and restaurants serving traditional Highlander food. They were also informed about various activities, such as hiking in the Tatra Mountains, skiing, snowboarding, and even husky rides.
After receiving some valuable information from Baza Tatri, Mark and Hajaa decided to indulge in a traditional Polish breakfast before heading out for their adventure. They enjoyed boiled eggs, vegetables, dark bread, farmer's cheese, sliced meats, and a special Mountain String Cheese they bought from a local roadside stall.
With their appetites satisfied, Mark and Hajaa made their way to the Tatra Mountains using the cable car. The cable car line runs from Kuznice to Kasprowy Wierch, reaching an altitude of 1959 meters. However, due to the foggy weather, their visibility at the peak was minimal. Nonetheless, they appreciated the beauty of the mountains and the experience of being high up in the sky.
Once they returned to the town, Mark and Hajaa explored Krupofki Street. They discovered numerous shops selling traditional Polish souvenirs, including handmade products by local artisans. The street was bustling with tourists, and there were various food options available, from kebabs to local Polish delicacies.
After much consideration, Mark and Hajaa chose a cozy restaurant to have their lunch. They savored smalec - a dish made of pork lard and bacon, spread on a piece of bread with pickles on top. Mark also ordered meat pierogi, boiled dumplings filled with a mixture of beef and pork, garnished with bacon bits.
The next morning, they decided to explore the outskirts of Zakopane, specifically Elbatovka, a place known for producing traditional smoked sheep cheese called oscypek. They observed the cheese-making process and tasted the smoky and salty cheese.
Mark and Hajaa had a delightful time exploring Zakopane and its surroundings. Although they were unable to see the full beauty of the Tatra Mountains due to the weather, they enjoyed discovering the local cuisine and experiencing the rich culture of the region.
If you're planning a trip to Poland, don't forget to include Zakopane in your itinerary and immerse yourself in the charm of the Tatra Mountains.
